Local MP Sheena Watt visits Urban Camp
Today we welcomed MP Sheena Watt to Urban Camp, joined by Board Member Julie McCormack and CEO Elizabeth Compton. Representing Victoria’s Northern Metropolitan region since 2020, Ms Watt is known for her strong advocacy for fairness, opportunity and healthier, more connected communities.
During her visit, she toured our accommodation areas, activity spaces and dining facilities. This gave her a clear sense of how Urban Camp provides a safe, supportive and affordable base for young people exploring Melbourne.
Ms Watt was particularly interested in our impact on children from the Northern Metro region, as well as those travelling from regional and remote communities who may not otherwise have the chance to visit the city. Urban Camp welcomes over 10,000 students annually from across Victoria.
We also discussed our sponsorship program, which removes financial barriers for children experiencing hardship. Last year, funding enabled 200 students from regional Victoria to visit the Aquarium, and supported an entire school from Ms Watt’s electorate to attend Urban Camp, ensuring children who might not otherwise have these opportunities could participate alongside their peers.
CEO Elizabeth Compton commented “Today’s visit offered a valuable opportunity to highlight Urban Camp’s role in building confidence, connection and lifelong memories for Victorian children, and to explore future opportunities to broaden our impact across the state.”
