Located in the CBD, the Immigration Museum have a selection of engaging and interactive virtual learning experiences delivered to your students.

Guided Programs

 

Documenting the Voyage

Cost: $90 up to 30 students / connection + booking fee

Curriculum: Humanities, Literacy, Capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, and Intercultural

Grade: 3-4

Outline: Educators from the Immigration Museum will tell a story created from the letters of George Allen found in the Immigration and Diversity collection.

The story will profile the life of a newcomer to the colony of Victoria in the 19th century and address curriculum outcomes for Humanities at levels 3 and 4.

The online session will be supported with a detailed pre-session activity program, plus follow up tasks. A museum educator will consult with the classroom teacher at the time of booking.

Colonial Life: Invasion and Settlement

Cost: $90 up to 30 students / connection + booking fee

Curriculum: Historical Knowledge and Intercultural Capability

Grade: 5-6

Outline: Students who are studying colonial Australia in the 1800s and the development of Australia as a nation, will better understand the impact of this period on the lives of the First Peoples and their country.

This interactive livestream program will introduce students to the beliefs and practices of the First Peoples of Victoria who have lived in South-Eastern Australia for thousands of years. They will learn how colonial practices impacted on the people and the environment of Victoria.

Students will be provided with  ‘before and after’ activities that explore key concepts that are addressed in the program and provide questions and resources for conducting deeper research after the session.

From Vietnam to Victoria

Curriculum: Humanities, Literacy, Capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, and Intercultural

Grade: 5-6

Outline: Educators from the Immigration Museum will use objects from the migration and diversity collection to share this unique personal story and investigate the ways in which personal histories can be documented.

Thomas Le’s visual representation of Mai’s journey from Vietnam to a refugee camp and eventual relocation to Victoria, Australia will be an element of the session.

Migration and Identity

Cost: Free

Curriculum: History, Intercultural Capability and Civics and Citizenship

Grade: 3-10

Outline: Small objects, big stories: how we create, keep and share stories.

They’re providing a collection of resources from the Migration and Diversity collections for you to use while learning at home or in your classroom. They are helping us better understand our Australian society.

Making History

Cost: Free

Curriculum: Humanities: History,  Civics and Citizenship, Humanities: Geography, English and Arts: Creating and Making 

Grade: 5-12

Outline: Through Making History students will be able to research, create and share short three-minute family and community histories. This is an online resource which can be used as a program in the classroom by teachers. 

Making History is organised around four themes:

Small Object Big Story

Outline: This structured guide outlines a framework for students and community participants to research family or community history and share it through exhibition or publication. Use it to undertake research or choose elements of the framework to assist your own path of study.
