Located in the CBD, The Big Issue Classroom are offering a unique experience for students to hear first-hand from people who have experienced homelessness.

The Big Issue eClassroom delivers online interactive workshops to primary school and secondary school students around Australia.

The Big Issue eClassroom

Cost: $240 + GST per class of 30 students
*Thanks to our partnership with the Victorian Government Department of Education, we’re delighted to provide one eClassroom workshop free of charge to all Victorian Government Secondary and Primary schools until the end of Term 3, 2021.

Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Health and Physical Education, English, Sustainability Cross Curriculum Priority, Humanities and Social Sciences

Grade: 1-12

Outline: They offer workshops for upper and lower primary students, both linking to learning areas across the Victorian and Australian curriculum. Upper primary students hear a personal story of homelessness directly from one of our guest speakers, while lower primary students work through a story book adaptation. Through age-appropriate storytelling, questions and discussion, a skilled facilitator helps students:

  • Explore and break down stereotypes of homelessness and disadvantage

  • Discover facts about homelessness in Australia

  • Learn about The Big Issue’s initiatives

  • Think about how they can stand up for themselves and their peers if they need help

Session Days: Monday - Friday

Session Times: 1 hour. As per teacher request.
